Best Essential Oils For Depression and Anxiety

Essential oils are often used by people seeking an emotional boost. Aromatherapists are well aware that some oils seem to work very well for elevating the mood, when someone feels down and out.

That’s why these oils are often included in special aromatic blends designed to elevate the mood. Citrus oils, in particular, are some of the most often recommended plant-based extracts when someone feels stuck, and needs a lift.

Although someone who’s seriously depressed requires expert, professional care, essential oils might be useful for someone who just needs a boost from time to time.

Using Essential Oils For Emotional Healing

Plant-based medicines, including aromatics, have been used for ages to ease the stress and anxiety of life. However, in the last decade, essential oils have become very popular, as so many of us seek more natural solutions to our health problems.

For instance, I use aromatics when I have a headache, instead of over-the-counter medications, which can have potentially serious side effects. I also use them to help me sleep at night.

Mainstream medicine has a lot of catch up to do, when it comes to research on aromatics. One of the few mainstream sources of aromatherapy information is the University of Maryland Medical Center. On its website, it noted that it appears as if certain aromatics can help people relax.

However, even without this official sanction, a growing number of people appear to be using essential oils to help with the symptoms of depression, stress and anxiety, at least judging by the number of essential oil formulas on the market designed for that purpose.

One is Cheer Up Buttercup!, made by Now Foods, a company I can recommend because I use a number of its products myself. I rarely buy aromatics sold by multilevel marketing companies, simply because I don’t feel I need to.

This formula contains a blend of five citrus oils. Professional aromatherapists often prefer blends over single oils because of the synergy of several oils working together, which possibly produces a more potent remedy.

The Cheer Up Buttercup! blend shown here is sold by Vitacost, a large online health food store that sells its 45,000 items at deeply discounted prices. It’s one of my favorite places to shop.
