Essential Oils that Help Headaches

essential oils to help headaches

In recent years, I’ve thrown away all of my OTC pain relievers.

Now, if I get a headache, I use essential oils to dull the pain.

This works for me. Literally, within seconds, I can feel the congestion begin to dissipate. Although I can’t make any claims, or promise the same will happen for you, I can tell you about a specific blend, designed for when your head is throbbing.

This formula is sold by Edens Garden, a company started in 2009 by a wife and mother, in the garage of her in-laws. The company has grown so that it has a large presence in the aromatherapy industry. Whenever possible, the oils it sells are sourced from organic growers, according to the company website.

I believe Edens Garden offers a good alternative if you don’t prefer to shop through multilevel marketing networks. Nearly all of the time, I buy my oils outside of the large MLM channels, although I realize that the main MLM players do sell excellent products.

Essential Oil Blend for Headaches

The Head Ease Synergy Blend you see below is one of Edens Gardens blends. Many aromatherapists like blends. That’s because it’s widely believed the different plant extracts work together in a synergy, above and beyond what happens if you just use individual oils.

I’ve ordered from Edens Garden in the past, and I’ve been really happy with the quality. This is one of the essential oil brands I trust, and use myself.

Essential Oils that Help Headaches

This bottle of Head Ease contains 100 percent pure essential oils. So it must be diluted in a carrier oil before you apply it to your aching head. Applying an oil directly to your skin could put you at risk of developing a sensitivity. If this happens, you won’t be able to use this particular oil again.

A standard dilution ratio I often use at home is one drop of aromatic oil to one teaspoon of carrier oil. However, if it were me, since I’m a healthy adult, I’d consider doubling this for an acute situation such as a migraine.

But check with your own healthcare provider first. I’m not a doctor, so I can’t give medical advice. All I can do is share with you how I treat my own headaches.

Essential Oils Good for Headaches

For carrier oils, I like to use olive, grape seed or coconut oil. If you want to make a headache blend for travel, you can also purchase special aromatherapy bottles with roller tops. These can easily fit inside of a purse or a suitcase. The bottles shown here have metal rollers, instead of plastic, which can degrade when exposed long-term to aromatic oils.

You can use little essential oil transfer pipettes to fill these portable roll-on bottles.

I’m so happy to have discovered essential oils. They typically relieve my pain quickly and effectively. We haven’t owned over-the-counter pain relievers in years, and have no plans to buy any ever again.
