Shea butter is considered to have a number of benefits for skin. Personally, I love the way it works on my face and body. It seems to work especially well in the cold weather, when your skin is dry.
A few years ago, I collected all of my beauty products. Then I threw them away.
That’s because they contained a veritable witch’s brew of chemicals. And I didn’t want these inside my body.
About 60 percent of everything we apply to our skin winds up on our bloodstream. So, in order to avoid the parabens and other questionable ingredients found in these formulas, I decided to trade them in for plant-based products.
Shea Butter Benefits for Skin Care
This was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Natural ingredients, such as pure shea butter, seem to work better on my skin than all of the potentially hazardous materials I was using. Parabens are a huge problem. These preservatives are added to nearly all women’s beauty products, unless you choose from the growing array of all natural cosmetics. Some researchers partially blame parabens, which mimic the female hormone estrogen, for the current breast cancer epidemic.
Since safer alternatives exist, I see no reason not to use them. Plus, some of these products seemed to irritate my skin. No matter how much moisturizer I applied, in the winter, I had dry flaky skin near the corners of my mouth. In retrospect, I suspect my cosmetics were causing the problem, rather than alleviating it. Since I’ve stopped using them the dryness has disappeared.
Shea Butter Benefits for Skin
Shea nuts grow in West Africa, and thrive where soil conditons are dry. For ages, women in Africa have used shea butter as a moisturizer. This butter certain seems to have an affinity for the skin. One thing I notice is that it’s absorbed well. This natural remedy is commonly used by people with eczema and psoriasis.
Women with stretch marks also use shea butter to try to heal their skin.
Anyway, here is the brand of shea butter I purchased. The jar shown below is sold by Pureformulas. This is a large online health food store that carries more than 40,000 products. Everything sold by this company is shipped for free. There is no minimum order requirement.

Shea Butter Benefits for Face
Anyway, if you suffer from dry skin or if you like to make your own non-toxic beauty products, you’ll probably need shea butter. Nearly all of the DIY recipes for body butter, night cream and other homemade emollients call for shea butter as one of the ingredients. However, if mixing is not something you want to do, you can also use shea butter on its own.
